A Trip Around the World: Ultra Expensive Homes

When a posh pad has a sticker price of $1 Billion dollars, you can pretty much say this home is ultra expensive. We love scouring home magazines, residential journals and lust-worthy architectural blogs to find the most epic residences known to man.

Sit back, get cozy and feast your eyes on the most expensive homes around the world. Our first stop is not too far from the greenery of the pacific northwest, let’s go to Montana - saddle up!

Winter snow bunnies can seek the ultimate sanctuary at “The Pinnacle” estate in Montana. Owners, Tim and Edna Blixseth did not make compromises when thinking of every detail to deck out this ultra luxe winter home. From heated flooring installations, to a fireplace in every bathroom (jealous), this estate defines grandeur.

Now we’re off to Mumbai, India where the most expensive house on record for 2013 is located: Antilia. This home is situated in the modern neighborhood of Mumbai and is owned by only the 5th wealthiest guy in the world. To take in this residence, you’ll definitely have to put in a nice stretch of your neck, the home is a modest 27-stories tall. So how much is the 5th wealthiest man in the world’s home valued at? $1 Billion dollars ladies and gents!

Now to take our luxe residential adventure of expensive homes to our neighbors to the north, Canada!

Quebec has always been such an alluring province; French speaking Canadians, an amazing cultural capitol of Montreal and a motto meaning, “I Remember”. Quebec is also home to this attractive $9.8 million dollar beauty:

Finally, we venture to Spain’s Mediterranean Sea where one of the most sexy residences awaits your attention. This Spanish, Mediterranean home located in Ibiza, Spain boasts Bali style furnishings, designed by Malales Martinez Canut, architect and designer. A home thirty years young truly has aged like a fine vintage wine.

We all can lust over expensive homes and designer residences, but at the end of the day a home is where we congregate with family, friends, loved ones and ourself. A home can be grand, a home can be modest; a house is a home when the home is filled with love, warmth and experiences.

It is always a surreal experience to tour a home that just hit the luxury real estate market. When an estate possesses that genuine “wow-factor”, showing luxury homes to prospective buyers makes working in the real estate industry that much more exciting. Featuring luxury real estate definitely encompasses that “Disneyland” feel. Each decadent room is like touring a different ride.

If you ask me, Washington is the best place to live. We are blessed to be surrounded by beauty, from the ocean to the mountains, and the forests in between. How can we take advantage of this natural beauty? Well, living in a home where we can admire our beautiful surroundings daily would be choice! Even if you are happily settled in a neighborhood that you call home, taking an adventurous joyride to explore beautiful neighborhoods nestled across the south Puget Sound can be just as exhilarating. Here are 5 of the most beautiful neighborhoods to live in around the south sound.

Old Town

Tucked just past bustling downtown Tacoma, and perched above Ruston Way lies ‘Old Town’ — a quickly forgotten neighborhood, with unforgettable views. Score a house in this neighborhood, and you’ll be greeted every morning with sweeping views of the Puget Sound and Vashon Island, glorious Mt. Rainier, and the skyline of downtown. Trend Alert: Defining the Home Buyer in 2013

The National Association of Home Builders recently came out with a study forecasting trends in home buying for 2013. Whether you consider yourself a “baby boomer” or were born in “Generation X” or “Y”, there has been considerable analytical research vested in determining who is buying what in the housing market.

The question now is not if people are buying homes again, the question is really where and who are buying homes for sale on the market. Forget multi-family housing, buyers in all demographics are aiming their interests in single-family detached homes.

Now that we know buyers are finding excitement again in real estate, what are these buyers willing to spend? David Crowe, chief economist of the NAHB reports that, “prospective new-home buyers expect to pay $204,000—down significantly from $231,000 in 2007.”

With homes selling, interior trends in the market are also forming. The single-family homes with three or four bedrooms, two or two and a half baths, and wide open family rooms and kitchens are choice homes across all demographics.

Valentines Day Without the Reservation

Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving Dinner, New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day are THE most anticipated holidays for restaurants to cash in on. Reservations to get into the swankiest and most desired dining establishments need to be prearranged well in advance; often times menus are limited to prix fixe tasting menus.

Valentine’s Day can be enjoyed without the coveted reservation at the best seating in town however. After spending time noshing, and sipping bubbly libations around northwest gems, neighborhood secrets and iconic landmarks, a very special list of romantic places to sneak off to was created just for you.

“Love Knows No Height”

The Cliff House Restaurant, situated high above Commencement Bay, is nestled right off of Marine View Dr., and at the cliff and water’s edge. Forget making a reservation for the dining room, sneak downstairs to the cozy lounge, grab a seat near the window overlooking the icy waters below.

The Nosh: A date worthy aphrodisiac - Penn Cove select oysters on the half shell served with a champagne mignonette.

Don’t be surprised if you spot a Seal or Sea Lion out in the waters of the Puget Sound. Events to be Fabulous in February at!

February is the month of love, and the south sound is celebrating all that I love all month long. From comedy to wine and everything in between, February’s calendar is packed with things to do and see!

Show some family love at Tacoma’s Sister City International Film Festival starting on February 7th.

Every Thursday through April 4th, join the Blue Mouse Theatre for a cultural introduction of each of Tacoma’s nine sister cities followed by one of their award winning films. To kick off this festival of culture and learning, “What the Snow Brings from our sister city, Kitakyushu, Japan”. Throughout the month, catch films from Israel, Cuba, China, Korea, Norway, Taiwan, France and Morocco. Tickets are only $10 each and can be purchased from the Blue Mouse Theatre, or the Pacific Northwest Shop, both located in the Proctor district of Tacoma.

Take a day trip with your loved one to the beautiful city of Sumner for their annual sweetheart wine walk. Browse the town’s eclectic shops while sampling the regions top wines. Tickets are $20 each and come with a commemorative wine glass. To make an extra special occasion opt for the overnight package which includes a night stay at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites of Sumner, only $150. The Sweetheart Wine Walk is on February 9th, and starts at 4:00 pm.

Legendary comedian, Bill Cosby, is coming to town to help celebrate the University of Puget Sound’s 125th anniversary. On February 10th, nestled among the picturesque UPS campus, Cosby will be unleashing his whit and energy on the crowd. So you read the title of this blog and are thinking to yourself, “wait it’s already results time for the New Year’s Resolution I’ve set for myself?” Not quite what I had in mind, read on…

Christmas is not just for children, adults also have their many wants and needs. Because I feel like I should be on Santa’s nice list this year I put together a few Christmas wants that are not only oh so amazing, they are actually practical and serve a function as well.

‘Tis the season to be jolly, fa la la la la…la la la la! Most of us are in the festive mood to explore what our quaint neighborhoods and communities are offering up this holiday season.

Here is a list of my favorite activities to partake in this holiday season; so grab a hot chocolate, or gingerbread latte and take careful notes because you definitely don’t want to miss out on the season of fun!

If you are a woman, or if you have a little girl, The Nutcracker Ballet is one of my most favorite holiday memories and activities to participate in. South Sound Mom is giving away a pair of tickets to Tacoma City Ballet’s Nutcracker. Enter to win, and even if you don’t win, you should take the family to see this magical production.

Living and growing up in or around Tacoma you may have heard about the annual Victorian Country Christmas that takes place at the Puyallup Fairgrounds. While you are out perusing the stunning holiday decor and crafts by artisans, enjoy the sultry sounds of musical artist Sarah Darling on Saturday, December 1st.

Winter and the holidays would not be complete without the annual Polar Bear Plaza ice-skating rink in downtown Tacoma. Make your Saturday or Sunday a full day with art at the Museum of Glass, fun for the children at the Tacoma Childrens’ Art Museum and then a skate around the rink.

Finally, bundle up and take your loved ones to the epic and memorable Pt. Defiance Zoo Lights. This year be prepared for a thrilling adventure because this year you can take a whirling spin on the antique carousel or fly through the trees on a zipline.

Decked Out Decor: Vintage Tacoma

Tacoma is my city, for all of its beauty and art, and the eclectic personality it boasts. When you visit the neighborhoods in North Tacoma drive down some of the back roads such as North “I” street or along Proctor and you will find some of the most amazing storytelling vintage homes in all of Pierce County.

If you have driven around the historic and infamous Stadium district where Stadium High School stands, known for being the backdrop of the Hollywood film “10 Things I Hate About You” you may run into the classic Rust mansion on North “I” street.

The history behind the Rust mansion:

Designed by Ambrose J. Russell in 1905 for the principal of ASARCO Smelter, William R. Rust, the Rust mansion resonated charm, class and distinction.

Along North Stevens is the Weyerhaeuser Mansion. This massive property is 6-acres and 44,000 square feet. The mansion was built back in the early 1920s for a mere $500,000. Can you guess the net value of the estate today? Guess in the multi-millions. Could you imagine if a modern architect came in to this mansion and gave it a complete contemporary, yet vintage stylish makeover? Ooolala!

A final look at Tacoma’s vintage properties brings us to one of my favorite mansions on the north end, The Villa Bed and Breakfast. This Tuscan inspired villa built in the early 1900s was built for the McCormack family and although recently went through hard times with respect to ownership, is making its way back to the top of excellence.

Gig Harbor Has a Middle Name!

The Gig Harbor Real Estate Market makes up unique and quintessential pacific northwest landscape; so why not give Gig Harbor a middle name - Luxury! When was the last time you took a drive across the Narrows Bridge and drove along some of Washington’s most scenic highways lined with Evergreens and lush vegetation?

Amidst Gig “Luxury” Harbor is prime million dollar real estate. One divine listing that definitely caught my eye was a listing located along Goodman Drive. Listed at $6.85 million dollars; this waterfront property is magnificent in so many distinctive ways.

Forgotten Estates: Million Dollar NW Foreclosures

When a million dollar development is constructed and a fortune is spent creating a residential dream, you would never imagine that this dream would be torn away.

The residential real estate market has been suffering for as long as I can remember. It was once a booming industry and quarter of a million, and million dollar homes were not so under-valued. Residential and commercial banking has never been so directly involved with real estate foreclosures than they are now in this decade.

There is a silver lining in the horizon for the luxury real estate world, but until that happens discover the Northwest’s most impressive million dollar foreclosures.

Situated in Olympia, WA is this $1.375 million dollar unfinished mansion. The home was developed on 22+ acres of land with 5 bedrooms and 7.25 bathrooms. This modern estate was built reminiscent of a European castle for royalty, Prince William would be quite comfortable vacationing at this private retreat like mansion.

Creepy Scary Abandoned Mansions

It’s almost Halloween and the month of October is in full swing. What better way to get ready for the festivities that Halloween brings than with a creepy scary feature on abandoned, and possibly haunted mansions!

Forbes is usually my favorite place to go when I want to check out the lifestyles of the rich and famous. With such an eerie date up and coming however, Forbes has dished out what most of us are curious about knowing; where are the most scary mansions, and what is the story behind their daunting fate.

Who would maintain their property taxes each and every year, however not inhabit the residence? Well this Los Feliz, Californian estate has been empty since the 1960s when a doctor committed a brutal murder and then took his own life. No one has lived at this mansion since the tragedy and it remains empty indefinitely.

Mudhouse Mansion in Lancaster, Ohio has the Los Feliz mansion beat in the respect that no one has lived at this amazingly eerie mansion since the 1930s. The name alone suggests the mansion is haunted.

Did you know New Hampshire is home to a modern day castle? Well, even though no one lives at Kimball Castle, it is on the market for $880,000 and was featured on the reality series, Ghost Hunters.

We all love hearing about bad stories becoming good. NFL’r Michael Vick once ran his awful and disgusting illegal dog fighting ring at this creey mansion in Virginia. The light at the end of the tunnel has came for dogs though, a nonprofit helping man’s best friend is going into the estate.

The end of an era, this estate once hosted Winston Churchill. There are a lot of rumors about this mansion and one includes the suspicion of being F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Great Gatsby inspiration.

The Homes of the Real Housewives: Karent

Will you be tuning in to the Real Housewives of Miami tomorrow at 9/8c on Bravo TV? Before the episode airs I have the weekly scoop on Real Housewives star, Karent Sierra’s massive Miami mansion.

Opulent is the best way to define this attractive Miami estate. Think of a romantic villa tucked away amongst the hills of the Mediterranean, or on the jagged cliffs of the Amalfi Coast near Sorrento, Italy. Karent’s home is a residential mediterranean oasis.

One of my favorite features of Karent Sierra’s modern home with a classical twist is the high ceilings and open space in the living room. The living area is the ideal space for an intimate cocktail reception or wine tasting party with friends.

The feature that does not go unnoticed is the outdoor swimming pool; just think a cooling off sanctuary for all.

Lisa’s personal claim to fame prior to becoming a Miami socialite was making four appearances in Playboy. Now a reality television star on Bravo, Lisa is quite comfortable in her exclusive sunset island estate.

What I love most about Lisa’s Miami mansion has to be the stunning architecture. From the massive pillars to stone archways, this estate is the ultimate craftsman home.

The water features surrounding the Miami estate are works of art.

The Hochstein’s appreciate their friends and offer the ideal mansion for entertaining and hosting epic parties to top Miami’s social scene.

Living under the Miami sun on sunset island has its perks and enjoying the views from the privacy of an infinity pool is just the icing on the cake.
